Gateway to the West Harley Owner’s Group
Chapter #1337
CHAPTER INFORMATION
(Who we are and what we do)
We are the Gateway to the West HOG Chapter 1337, of St. Louis, Missouri; a local chapter of Harley Owners Group, or H.OG. The local Chapter can only exist through the sponsorship of an authorized Harley-Davidson dealership. Our sponsor is Gateway Harley-Davidson, located at 3600 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO. Gateway Harley-Davidson has the authority to ensure that our Chapter is living up to the standards of the H.O.G. Charter. Without Gateway Harley-Davidson, and the Surdyke Family of dealerships, there would be no Chapter. Being a part of our Chapter will keep you informed of what's going on with the Chapter, the Dealer, and the local Harley-Davidson community!
National Harley Owners Group requires that you first be a member in good standing of National H.O.G. before you can join a local H.O.G. chapter. National H.O.G. members enjoy a number of benefits relative to the sport of riding and traveling on your Harley. Benefits of membership include subscription to Hog Magazine, an annual membership pin, annual road atlas, and annual membership pins and patches. Your membership also makes you eligible to earn an ABCs of Touring award, a writing contest award, photographer pins, and mileage patches and pins. Also available is a touring handbook with Harley dealers marked, roadside assistance/towing reimbursement, insurance, motorcycle shipping, theft reward program, safe rider skills programs, etc. Also offered is H.O.G. Fly and Ride and opportunities to participate in local, state, national and international rallies. H.O.G. is the largest club in the world over 1,000,000 members, bound by the passion to ride. If you would like to look into the benefits or get more information on the Harley Owners Group, visit www.hog.com or www.members.hog.com, or you can call them toll free at 1-800-CLUB-HOG.
As a member of Gateway to the West Harley Owners Group, you become part of a local organization of riders who share the devotion of riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle wherever the journey leads. Along the way you will have fun, help others work on charities, parties, rides, and become a vital member of our growing family of friends. You will meet a wide range of people of all ages, backgrounds, and professions who will likely become your newest friends. The experiences shared by our Chapter members live through smiling recollections and unending story telling.
Gateway to the West H.O.G. offers a full calendar of events with fun for everyone. The great thing about Chapter activities is how much they reflect the passions and personalities of a Chapter's members. No matter where you go in the world, every chapter gives its activities a distinct feel and flavor. Gateway to the West H.O.G. officers try to incorporate many different types of events that will appeal to its diverse membership.
Dinner Rides: Two things all bikers love to do is ride and eat and our Chapter Dinner Rides incorporate both activities. Dinner rides are usually held the third Saturday of each month and leave from Gateway Harley-Davidson. Details may change so it's important to check the schedule on the Chapter Web site regularly. Schedule changes are also posted on the Chapter's Facebook page.
Parades: Gateway H.O.G.s love a parade! It's a great way to show your Harley pride and give your local community something to roar about. Annually, we participate in the Missouri State H.O.G. Rally parade, Veteran's Day Parade, and the Mardi Gras Parade.
Observation Runs: These special rides offer an opportunity to ride, learn, and remember. The Gateway Chapter Ladies of Harley sponsors an annual observation run. Other local chapters often offer this type of ride, as do state rallies.
Facebook Page: Gateway H.O.G. has a Chapter Facebook page which provides information on upcoming events. Our members often gather there to discuss events (past and present), post pictures, or even set up informal, impromptu rides among friends.

Holiday Events: These parties are always closed events, which means members only with 1 guest. There is an annual Gateway H.O.G. Family Picnic and an Annual Christmas Party featuring great food along with a live band. Past events have included a bike burn/hay ride at for Halloween and a Mardi Gras Ball in February.
Safe Rider Programs: When enough Chapter members complete accredited courses, 12 in a calendar year, H.O.G. awards special recognition. The Surdyke family of dealerships offers the MSF and Harley Accredited riding classes. The courses can be taken at Gateway Harley-Davidson and are great for both new and experienced riders.
Charity Events: Do some good and feel good about it while having fun! Our chapter currently supports or has in the past supported: the Hartbauer-McBride Memorial Foundation (Bikers Helping Bikers), March of Dimes (Bikers for Babies), Shriner's (Ride So Kids Can Walk), St. Jude's Hospital, Ride on St. Louis (horse therapy for disabled children), Ronald McDonald House, Our Little Haven (children's orphanage), Jefferson Barracks Hospital (through our Veteran's Bingo), Feed My People (food pantry) and the USO (during our Gypsy Rendezvous event).
Volunteering: Our Chapter has a variety of volunteer opportunities--from assisting with an event to holding a position as Chapter Officer. All positions within the Chapter are volunteer and the Chapter is always in need of additional help.
Rides: Our chapter holds many rides throughout the year--short rides, long rides, overnight rides and rides spanning 3-4 days. All are great adventures and provide our members with many memories and stories to tell. Most rides have been pre-ridden by road captains and Chapter road captains lead and sweep every ride. Safety is #1 and group rider skills are a priority.
Chapter Meetings: Chapter meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at the Gateway Harley-Davidson dealership. Check-in and networking begins at 7:00 pm with the meeting starting at 7:30 pm. Information at meetings include the introduction of new members, events (past, current and upcoming), and general Chapter business. You do not have to be a member to attend one of our meetings. Guests are always welcome!
