GATEWAY RIDER CHALLENGE

It’s All About Riding and Having Fun!

Purpose:

The Gateway Rider Challenge (GRC) program was designed to promote club participation, provide members with fun ideas of places to go and things to do, and to recognize those that promote the chapter through their participation. Since the GRC was developed for and by, the Gateway St. Louis Missouri Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) Chapter, it is open to chapter members only for participation.

History:

Originally the idea for the GRC was brought back from the Harley-Davidson 95th Anniversary in Milwaukee Wisconsin by member Pati Alberts, who obtained the idea from a northern H.O.G. chapter. Pati and Ron Crawford brought the program to life at the Gateway H.O.G. chapter by expanding on the design, assembling the first books and soliciting the membership for a logo design. The hog on a bike logo was such a popular design that one member rushed out to get it as a tattoo (for your first challenge, see if you can find out who). Initially the GRC was loaned the funding to get it started by the chapter, but now it is self-sufficient.

Each year the program grows in participants, and things to do, and is well received by our sponsoring dealership Gateway Harley-Davidson. Historically top point and participation prizes have been awarded at the chapter Christmas party. The program is not intended to be a fund raiser, therefore; the majority of the money collected is returned as prizes.

How It Works:

Each year prior to the riding season the GRC Committee meets to determine the events that will receive GRC points. Typically these include participating in Chapter meetings, dealer events, places to visit, eating establishments, local, state, national events, H-D dealerships, various riding challenges, etc. Participation of GRC events between the 1st of the year and the printing & distribution of the books is verified via the sign-up sheets from the events. Once the books are available, they are sold for a nominal fee. Members of the GRC Committee will verify your participations in events. Non-group/chapter event participation is verified by presenting a GRC Committee member some form of proof of participation, such as a receipt, picture, etc. These events are listed in the book along with the type of proof required for validation. Starting and ending mileage can either be verified by a GRC Committee member or a service ticket from Gateway Harley-Davidson, provided the ticket reflects the mileage, date, and VIN number of your motorcycle. The GRC ends each year and books are to be turned in at the November chapter meeting. This gives  the Committee sufficient time to tabulate the books and determine the prize levels prior to the Christmas party. Each year a rocker year pin is presented to everyone that has turned in their book and it has been verified that they’ve obtained the minimum level of points (as set forth by the GRC Committee at the beginning of the year).

GRC books are available at the chapter meetings. If some reason prevents you from attending a chapter meeting (such as working evenings) contact the GRC chairman (listed in your newsletter) to obtain one. There is an adequate amount of time to start and obtain the minimal level of points up until September 1. After this date you may wish to wait for the following year.
